January’s Tennis & Pickleball News

Tennis & Pickleball News

Happy 2021! Looking Back – Looking Forward

2020 has been a challenging year for many which makes it all the more important to take care of our health and well being. I hope you are taking time for YOU! Looking back at this year, in spite of many challenges, we were able to develop a great quality tennis program, grow our membership and most importantly bring the community together and have lots of fun. Tennis socials, tournaments, clinics, interclub matches; there was a great deal of tennis and social activity here at the Club. Our members and many guests have participated in various leagues throughout the year, and our drills, cardio and pickleball continue to be very popular. We introduced Grand Slam and UTR tournaments this year which was a booming success. I want to thank all the members that make Hidden Trails a special club to be a part of and to our staff that go above and beyond to organize and arrange leagues, socials and various tennis and pickleball events. A big thank you also goes out to all the parents of our junior players, for getting them to and from our practices, tournaments and matches.

New Year, New Programs & New Look for our Facility

We have big plans for 2021. In addition to our current programming, we are introducing new and exciting league ladder play for both pickleball and tennis. You can read more about it below in the programming section.

We have had many improvements done this year – we resurfaced outside courts, installed brand new lights and purchased new furniture for our facility. We plan to undergo several projects to further improve the look of the Tennis Facility. Specifically, we are working on solutions for our lounge area floor; currently we have carpet there that is not in the best shape. We also need new green tarps that surround our indoor courts and we hope to give our lounge area a fresh look with new paint. Having said that, we will put together a Fundraiser in February that would help us with this effort. If you would like to be involved and help us in any way please reach out to me.

With 2021 knocking on the door, Hidden Trails Country Club will stay committed to bringing you the best in tennis, pickleball and events. Let’s bring in the New Year with focus on kindness and gratitude for all we have.

Best wishes,

Elizabeta Babb
Tennis Center Director

Tennis & Pickleball News

Happy Holidays! What a wonderful thing we have here at our Tennis & Pickleball Center. A place we can come and enjoy life, in spite of all this craziness. Thanks so much for your support, love and comradery throughout this very tough year.

I would like to share with you a little information about a Foundation that our club has been supporting for years. It is called Outrageous Love – Joe’s Addiction Shop. This foundation does truly wonderful things for our community. Its founder, Jamie Zumwalt, has dedicated over 10 years of her life to help those in need. Please take a look at this short video to learn more about what they do: https://youtu.be/HAuMY34nzK0. My wish is to help this Foundation through our events so if you take a look at our December Tournament list, you will find they benefit this Foundation. I hope you will join our events and support this effort to help those who need it most.

We are also holding a Toy Drive at Hidden Trails to benefit this organization- more info below!

Trails Mix- see what’s new!

News

Thanks for an amazing Thanksgiving!

To the members of Hidden Trails Country Club,

On November 21st, Joe’s Addiction, the small ministry for which this club has become a most generous benefactor, held its eleventh annual Thanksgiving dinner for the poor and dispossessed among us in Southeast Oklahoma City. I would like to extend my personal thanks to everyone who was able to donate to help feed these people, as well as to the dedicated kitchen staff who prepared this meal in the middle of a very busy Thanksgiving season.  Unfortunately, because of various uncertainties created by the Coronavirus pandemic, we were unable to plan as much as we normally do, and were only able to accept donations on one Sunday during brunch.  Thank you to all who donated!

As Christmas approaches, I would like to extend my thanks for all of the donations of toys for kids and items for parents the members of this club have donated over the years.  Joe’s Christmas free store will be open December 18th and 19th this year, and although I don’t need to say it, we all know that the economic effects of this pandemic have hit the poor extremely hard.  Any donations of toys, and or money for the purchase of gifts will be greatly appreciated.  You can bring anything to the club and Chris will make certain it gets to Joe’s in time.

Again, thank you all for your continuous generosity.  May God bless each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Chris Hollrah
Banquet Captain
Hidden Trails Country Club

Fall & Winter Hours

The golf course is open from 8am-Dark.

Dining is open from 8am until the last person leaves.

Please make reservations for evening dinners and events- we want to be ready for you!

We will be closed on Friday January 1st, 2021. We will reopen on Saturday, January 2nd.

Winter Policies

Winter is upon us, and we would like to remind members of our playing policies and procedures during this time. The dress code is still enforced. You can wear jeans from October 1 to March 1, but collared shirts are still required, even if you have a jacket over it (Hoodies, as popular as they have become, are not allowed on the golf course or practice area).

Players will not be allowed on the course during frost or frozen conditions. Keep an eye on the weather app! When it gets above 32 degrees, you will be allowed to play assuming ice, snow or frost has melted. Allowing players to walk on greens or overseeded driving range during these times can cause damage to the grass blades and roots.

We will do our best to accommodate our members, but be aware of a few general guidelines that are followed by our staff during cold days – 32 degrees or below, or snow/ice-covered; Golf course is closed. Pro Shop, Tennis Center and Grill will likely remain open with limited hours. At 32-40 degrees, golf carts will be pulled as needed, and pins may or may not be placed on the golf course if the wind chill factor is still below 32. Players are welcome to play, even without pins as long as it is above freezing.

Questionable Weather

Above freezing, but cold with high winds or chance of precipitation

The Pro Shop will be staffed but may close early in the absence of golfers or there has been no indication that there will be any golfers for the rest of the day. We do this to be as efficient as possible with labor during the winter months. Watch for weather updates via text and emails.

If you plan on playing on a day when it would otherwise be considered “crazy”, please let us know so we can anticipate your arrival. If you plan on dropping by the Pro Shop after work to shop for merchandise on a cold day, it is recommended to make sure the shop will still be staffed at that time. ❄

Use up your Shop Credit!

Reminder.  Shop Credit expires at the end of the year, 12/31/20.  You must make your purchases before the end of the year or the balance will go to Junior Fund to purchase Pull Carts. If you need your shop credit balance, please let me or the Pro Shop know.
